Blue-Green Algae at Hazelwood Lake

***UPDATE***

As of July 8, 2021, the beach at Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area has been re-opened.

Hazelwood Beach Area is CLOSED

The pressence of Blue-Green Algae has been identified at Hazelwood Lake Conservation Area. Please click here for more information from the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. 

If you spot a suspected blue-green algae bloom, report it to the Spills Action Centre at 1-800-268-6060.

If you have questions, please contact the Thunder Bay District Health Unit at 807-625-5900 to speak with a public health inspector.

The 2020 Lakehead Region Conservation Authority Annual Report is now available.

Physical copies are being distributed via the Chronicle Journal and will eventually be available at our Administrative Office once it reopens.

We are proud of the work completed during 2020, and look forward to continuing our mission to lead the conservation and protection of the Lakehead Watershed in service of our vision of a healthy, safe and sustainable Lakehead Watershed for future generations.

BE AWARE OF ICE CONDITIONS

PLEASE BE ADVISED:

It has come to our attention that ice conditions at Silver Harbour Conservation Area are becoming unsafe.

LRCA STAFF DO NOT MONITOR ICE CONDITIONS. Proceed with caution and at your own risk.

Additionally, the Ontario Provincial Police have received several complaints regarding unsafe parking along Silver Harbour Road. If you plan to visit the Conservation Area and see that the parking lot is full, please consider visiting at another time.

If you do plan to visit, you must adhere to all COVID-19 restrictions and Conservation Areas regulations, including payment of the $5.00 per vehicle parking fee.
