The LRCA operates a Flood Forecasting and Warning Program to provide early warning of possible risks to people and property from flooding. The LRCA provides municipalities in its Area of Jurisdiction, other agencies and the public with advance notice, information and advice so that they can respond to potential flooding and flood-related emergencies.
The LRCA monitors weather forecasts, streamflow gauges, precipitation gauges and snow courses to determine the potential for flooding. Based on local conditions Flood Messages are issued to municipalities, agencies and news media within LRCA’s area of jurisdiction when warranted.
Types of Flood Messaging
The Flood Warning System operates most effectively with significant rainfall events with at least 12 hours forecast time. It is not designed to predict flood warnings as a result of high intensity, short duration thunderstorms.
Every effort is made to update this website, however, individuals are advised to listen to media for news bulletins and pay attention to conditions in their local area.
If you witness flooding within the LRCA’s area of jurisdiction, please call us at (807) 344-5857. If you are calling after hours, the answering service will direct the information to applicable staff.
