The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority owns and pays property taxes on many properties throughout the City of Thunder Bay and other Member Municipalities in addition to our ten Conservation Areas.

Please note that the following areas are not accessible to the public (with the exception of the Administrative Office) and are not intended for recreational use.

  • Williams Forest Management Property – 554 hectares
  • Granite Point – 273 hectares
  • Bocking Area – 31 hectares
  • Jim Jessiman Nature Preserve – 21 hectares
  • Lecaine-Bailey Bird Sanctuary – 2.4 hectares
  • LRCA Administrative Office Property – 3.4 hectares

The LRCA has also purchased lands to afford flood protection.

Floodplain Lands owned by the LRCA include:

  • 22.8 hectares along McVicar Creek
  • 7 hectares along the Neebing River
  • 5 hectares along the Kaministiquia River
  • Arthur Bog – 54.8 hectares
  • 38.8 hectares along the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway
