A classic boreal forest carpeted with moss and bordered by Ferguson Creek and the Current River.
The unique flora and fauna of boreal forest give the Wishart Conservation Area a northern appeal. Naturalists often visit the Conservation Area in seek of wood warblers, orchids, reptiles, and amphibians.
In winter, make your way through Wishart by snowshoes looking for unique animal tracks in the snow.
The Wishart Conservation Area has two trail systems for visitors to enjoy: the Forest Trail system (2.3 km) takes you on a loop through the boreal forest from the parking lot. Cross the road to access the River Trail System (1.8 km) another looping trail system that takes visitors along the banks of the Current River.
Observe forest management firsthand and check out the newly planted seedlings (2023). The Wishart Managed Forest Plan outlines hazard tree removal and required forest maintenance to reduce the risk of forest fires. Stand improvements after harvesting will promote the regrowth of a young forest with typical Boreal conditions.
