CONSULTATION: Floodplain Mapping Updates 2020

CONSULTATION: Floodplain Mapping Updates 2020

June 24th

***Comment period has been extended until June 24, 2020***

We have recently completed studies to update the Flood and Fill Line Mapping for the Pennock Creek watershed and the Mosquito Creek watershed. The study updates the existing 1982 Pennock Creek and 1984 Mosquito Creek floodplain maps to current standards using state of the art modelling, GIS techniques and LiDAR topography.  As a resident along Pennock Creek and Mosquito Creek, it is important that you are aware of the natural hazards on your property and to be prepared in the event of a flood. It is also important that you are aware that development (i.e., construction, infilling, site grading, etc.) within a Regulated Area requires a permit from the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority.

About the Studies

The updated Mosquito Creek Floodplain and associated Fill Regulated Areas will be incorporated into the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority City of Thunder Bay, Geographic Township of Neebing, Screening Map-5, which depicts the Approximate Regulated Area.  The updated Pennock Creek Floodplain and associated Fill Regulated Areas will be incorporated into the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority City of Thunder Bay, Geographic Township of Neebing, Screening Map-5, and Municipality of Oliver Paipoonge, Geographic Township of Oliver, Screening Map-2 and Geographic Township of Paipoonge, Screening Map-3, which depicts the Approximate Regulated Area. Screening Maps are used by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority for the administration of Ontario Regulation 97/04-180/06: Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses. Development within a LRCA Regulated Area requires a permit from the Authority.

We will also be taking the health and safety of our staff and program participants very seriously, so please keep in mind that these programs are subject to change and/or cancellation.

Rest assured that the LRCA will be making responsible decisions in this regard and will not go forward with any programming should we feel that it is not safe to do so.
