2026 Winter Bird Count 4 Kids!

February 7 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Humans aged 8 – 17 years old and their adults are flocking to Wishart Conservation Area at the end of January to join a small group led by a local expert birder to hit the trails and count birds.  The trail is a 2km loop and we will go slowly and quietly, making note of all the birds we see.  We will meet back at the parking lot for a warm mug of hot chocolate and to tally up all our sightings.  Our observations will be submitted to Birds Canada, to help us understand how Canada’s winter birds are doing!
BRING:
  • Layered winter clothing (dress for the weather!)
  • Bird guides and binoculars (or borrow ours if you don’t have your own)
  • A mug for hot chocolate after the hike!
  • Your eagle eyes and owl ears for finding birds! Can we beat our 2025 totals?
NOTE:  Please fill out one the registration form FOR EACH HUMAN AGED 8-17 you are bringing.
NOTE:  This is not an event appropriate for kids younger than 8. If you have a keen younger kid, please register for Wishart Winter Birds for Younger Kids happening Saturday, Feb. 7th.
NOTE: There are no washrooms or shelters.
ALLERGY ALERT: Tree seeds, peanuts or other nuts are present at the bird feeders.
