The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) will be hosting a public Open House on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at its Administrative Office (located at 130 Conservation Road, Thunder Bay) to overview the Forest Management Plan and planned operations in Wishart Forest located on Onion Lake Road in the Township of Gorham, which is owned and maintained by the LRCA. KBM Resources Group will be providing a presentation at 7:00 p.m. after which both the consultant and LRCA staff will be present to answer questions.

KBM Resources Group was retained by the LRCA to update the existing Forest Management Plan (FMP) for Wishart Forest for the next 20 years. The primary objectives of the FMP include environmental protection, recreation/education and potential income generation to offset costs to maintain the area. Short-term goals of the plan include maintaining a healthy forest, increased watershed protection, improved wildlife habitat, trail maintenance, public safety and forest fire prevention. Long-term goals of the plan include expanded recreational opportunities and some revenue generation from increased usage by the public (i.e. parking fees, Explore Card Parking Pass sales, etc.) as well as some planned small-scale strategic harvest operations in order to enhance and maintain the health of the forest.
