Public Open House: Kaministiquia River Erosion Sites Inventory Project

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) will be hosting a Public Open House on June 11, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. regarding the recently completed Kaministiquia River Erosion Sites Inventory Project. The LRCA engaged the services of KGS Consulting Group to inventory the erosion sites, estimate the 100-year Erosion Hazard Limit, and delineate the Fill Line using historical and current imagery, LiDAR, and data collected in the field.

The draft report and maps will be available for viewing and comment at the Open House.  KGS Consulting Group and CDS Consulting, the consultants who undertook the study on behalf of the Authority, as well as LRCA staff will be available at the Open House to answer any questions related to the Study.

The 100-year Erosion Hazard Line and associated Fill Regulated Areas will be incorporated in the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority’s City of Thunder Bay, Geographic Township of Neebing, Screening Map-5, which depicts the Approximate Regulated Area.  Screening Maps are used by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority in the administration of Ontario Regulation 97/04-180/06: Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses. Development within this area will require a permit from the Authority.

Public Open House: Mosquito Creek Watershed Wetlands Evaluation Study

The Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) will be hosting a Public Open House on May 8, 2019 at 7:00 pm regarding the recently completed Mosquito Creek Watershed Wetland Study. The LRCA engaged the services of Northern Bioscience Ecological Consulting to evaluate the wetlands within the Mosquito Creek Watershed, which identified and confirmed the boundary of 249 hectares of existing wetlands within the LRCA Area of Jurisdiction. 

A presentation from Northern Bioscience will occur at 7 pm.  The study report and maps will be available for viewing at the Open House, and LRCA staff and Northern Bioscience will be available to answer any questions related to the Study.

The evaluated wetland boundaries including a 30 metre buffer will be incorporated in the City of Thunder Bay, Geographic Township of McIntyre, Screening Map-5, which depict the Approximate Regulated Area.  Screening Maps are used by the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority in the administration of Ontario Regulation 97/04-180/06:  Development, Interference with Wetlands and Alterations to Shorelines and Watercourses.  Development within this area will require a permit from the Authority.
